Where Language Takes Form: The Reopening of The Art Dome House in Bogota
The reopening of The Art Dome House in Bogota marks more than the inaguration of a new exhibition. It signals the consolidation of a space
For this first edition Artist of the Month, we chose LA-based photographer Uta Barth. Known for her conceptual approach to photography, Uta plays with light, perception, and space, giving her a signature style within the world of contemporary photography.
Born in West Germany in 1958, Uta Barth’s early life was shaped by Berlin during that era. She later moved to the United States before the fall of the Berlin Wall, arriving in California at the age of 12. In 1982, she earned her degree in Fine Art from the University of California, followed by her master’s degree in 1985.
For much of her career, Uta Barth worked primarily as a university professor in the art department. It wasn’t until her breakthrough series Grounds (1992) that the foundations of her exploration of perception and light were fully established, marking the first step toward her emblematic style in abstract photography.
Originally exhibited at the Alison Jacques Gallery, The Art Dome showcases two diptychs from the her series, Untitled (2006). These works continue the blurred abstraction of everyday scenes and objects found in her earlier work, while diving deeper into explorations of color particularly red tones. When overexposed with still photographs of flowers, the series plays with shadow and abstraction, resulting in a dynamic stillness.
Art transforms spaces, inspires teams, engages clients, and strengthens reputation while creating long-term cultural value.

Created a year later, Sundial (2007) marks an important milestone in Barth’s professional career. With her professorship ending the following year, this body of work reflects her continued exploration of perception and color now pursued full time. Originally exhibited at the Tanya Bonakdar Gallery, Sundial explores earthy tones, light, and the passage of time, looping these elements through the continuous imagery of the diptych format.
With both Sundial (2007) and Untitled (2006), we encounter works that demonstrate profound dedication and sensitivity, showcasing the passage of time through light and the subtle movement it produces even in complete stillness. These masterpieces are a timeless addition to The Art Dome’s collection from the great master Uta Barth.
