Art creates knowledge, and creating is a path toward understanding the unspeakable. Daniela constructs a world in which the subject lives through light, atmosphere, and the strangeness of images. She aims for the observer to recall emotions or experiences that lead to conversations about topics that are usually difficult to address: illness, pain, death, and our understanding and actions in response to these situations. She questions the production and dissemination of knowledge, what is considered legitimate versus what is overlooked; the dialogue and repair of connections with others after experiencing traumatic events.
When words run out, Art arrives and speaks with its soft yet persistent voice. Ultimately, what I seek is genuine communication. I want to be heard and also to listen, to connect with others, and not to feel alone in the world.
