Camilo Bojacá (Sogamoso, 1985) began his artistic journey at the National University of Colombia in 2005, where he delved into various techniques such as drawing, animation, video, and sculpture. Throughout his career, he has used these mediums to explore and question the contemporary construction of landscapes, focusing on the relationship between nature, architecture, and urban development. Projects like Jardín de Malezas (Garden of Weeds) and Andamios (Scaffolding) reflect his interest in how cities are built and the impact they have on the environment. In these works, he proposes a hybridization between the natural and built worlds, where both coexist in mutual benefit. Through delicate pencil drawings, scaffolding made of graphite, or cement sculptures with bonsais, Bojacá invites us to reconsider our role as inhabitants of the world.
In his latest project, Bojacá shifts his focus to explore the cube and other pure geometric forms, examining how these shapes reflect the way modern societies have structured everything from housing to sprawling cities. He contrasts the rational, formal nature of the cube with the numinous, organic, and random shapes found in nature. This dichotomy raises questions not only about our relationship with nature but also about how we construct our environments, which regulate our daily lives. Unlike nature's cyclical, organic forms that promote efficiency and conservation, human-made structures often disrupt these natural dynamics, offering a critical reflection on how we design and inhabit our world.
